A Look Back: 2012

January:
I started my blog! Part of the reason was because I wanted to record where I traveled or else I wouldn't remember it a few months down the road. You see, I have terrible memory. It's really something that I wish I could change about myself. :/
February:
During February/presidents day break, I legitimately began my blog by blogging about something haha! I also visited a few colleges.
March:
Junior year stress & swimming champs (we placed 2nd! woo)
April:
Family emergencies (and tragedy) caused me to travel to Vancouver during the April/spring/Easter break. On top of that, AP exams were coming up and I had a whole load of work to study.
May:
Terrible month, AP week(s) was stressful. Then, I went to Vancouver again where I got robbed and stranded (and as a result missed a lot of school) - a whole load of stress, just when I thought I could relax.
June:
Still recovering from May, I had a load of school work to make up, along with SAT subject tests and the ACT to study for. Then, I got rejected for an intern I applied to. :( But I  finally finished junior year and toured the East Coast of Canada with my aunts and uncle. :)
July:
It was a hard month, my grades were not what I expected and I was very confused. So, I basically spent my depressing days on the computer haha and swimming in the morning.
August:
I became more busy by volunteering. I also procrastinated all my summer work especially since I hate reading!
September:
School started and senior year, by far, is much harder than junior year. I visited Yale with Michelle and it was soooo pretty (kind of like Hogwarts)!
October:
My last tennis season ended! I went to Homecoming (it was my first time) saw Taken 2 and got froyo.
November:
Hurricane Sandy hit! Making me miss a lot of school D: But I finally sent all my college apps in! *hurray* I did not go Black Friday shopping, instead I stayed home and watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on tv and cooked for Thanksgiving!
December:
The world did not end. I went into Manhattan for my friend's birthday (which is on Christmas Eve!) and also went to PA for 2 days to ski :)

Overall, 2012 was a bad year. It was stressful, depressing and upsetting. Hopefully, 2013 will be better for me and everyone else. Hopefully, Obama puts strict regulations regarding the environment because I'm scared of an apoclapse due to global warming and its effects.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
This will be my last blogmas! I will continue to blog until New Years, though. However, I don't think I will do this again next year, it was a lot of work!
On Christmas Eve, it was my friend's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!)
Hope you have a great holiday season :) xx

Blurry Skyline

...I was trying to figure out how to take night pictures with a DSLR while moving in a car  lol... Obviously I failed but I think you have to make the ISO higher. :) I still like the picture though.

Dinner at Red Egg

I went out for dinner the other night in Chinatown at the restaurant Red Egg on Centre St (off of Canal St).
It's an mix of an asian food with western design. I really like the restaurant, they have really good authentic food, the price is decent, the waiters/waitresses are really nice, and I love the decor. Check it out if you happen to be in the area. If you are Cantonese (like me!) you may hear their commercials all the time on the radio 1480 AM.
My mom said she thought it was a strippers club haha. I mean... on the outside, it kind of does.
It's very off to a quiet street which makes it harder to find. It doesn't help that the outside does not look like a restaurant.
It's poorly lit in there (not like the traditional Asian restaurants) but I like it. The lights are dope (although they are probably not energy efficient boo!).

The world was suppose to end today...anyways
I haven't got much to talk about.

Miss USA Won Miss Universe!

Last night I turned on the tv to discover that Miss Universe was on!
I only saw the parts during and after the evening gowns.
I loved Miss Australia's dress! I thought Miss USA's dress and hair were very different than every other contestant's and that is what made her stand out.
However, I believe that Miss Philippines had the better answer to her question and would have bet that she would have won, so I was a bit surprised that Miss USA won. However, Miss USA's answer was very down-to-Earth in the way that she didn't speak in such an elegant tone as everyone else did, it was more like she was just speaking heart-to-heart to a girlfriend. I absolutely loved Miss USA's make-up and Miss Venezuela's hair. Congratulations to all those women who competed and got so far! Congratulations to Miss USA / Universe (Olivia Culpo) ! She looked gorgeous :)
What did you think of the show? xx

Dinner Gala

This past weekend I went to a party at Grand Restaurant in the New World Mall in Flushing in Queens.
There's this KTV karaoke place in the restaurant but it temporarily closed down. I'm not sure why, it's really pretty but I think it had something to do with alcohol.
I love the restaurant's roof. It's really elegant and pretty. The food was ok. It could have been better.
In Flushing, there is a growing number of very fancy restaurants. Grand Restaurant is one of them and the food is average, nothing spectacular, the service is ok as well; I've never had a problem with their service, however, I've only eaten there for dinner and not lunch (when they serve dim sum). I love there decor, which is super Hong Kong-style. I only wish they didn't use so many different changing lights and colors.

Weekend Getaway

I went upstate for a mini vacation and stayed at an acquaintance's huge mansion!!
My favorite room! It has a vintage vibe, and that is my brother btw
The lovely sunrise! The air upstate is so crisp and clean! And the night we arrived, the sky was clear and you could see all the stars unlike the tri-state area. It felt like when I was in Yellowstone, the night sky was so beautiful and clear. I wish I could see more stars where I lived :/

Beauty is Subjective

Someone may think something looks beautiful to them but another may think it looks ugly. For instance, upon asking a friend what he thought about my docs, he said they looked like Mario's (from Mario carts video game) shoes haha! I take no offense, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just my two cents, whatever you think is beautiful (tattoos clothing personalities food? Idk.. Etc) go ahead and do whatever you want. I guess what I'm trying to say is "Get busy living [life], or get busy dying." -The Shawshank Redemption

General Thoughts on Vancouver & Canada

Food
In NYC, you can find every type of food there is, but its hard to find good quality asian food.
In Vancouver, there is A LARGE amount of asian cuisine for GREAT quality.
I ate out almost everyday. It was a mix of dim sum, my aunts food, korean bbq, japanese food, and chinese food. Similar to NYC, more so in Vancouver, there is a lot of fresh seafood!
The city
ALL THE BUILDINGS ARE SO MODERN! Its beautiful! There's really no place else where you can ski and then go to the beach all in one day! (Quick fact: Vancouver has been rated the most livable city for the 5th time by some famous magazine or something.. pretty cool!)

This was me trying to do a jumping picture LOL -_-
Weed
Apparently Vancouver is the main exporter of the drug. Yes, its illegal to smoke weed in Canada, but everyone does it regardless. Not only that, but police do not really do anything about it because the paperwork takes hours. I know this is bad, but I can't help but laugh
Also, on 4/20 apparently, the whole downtown is in a haze of weed and "you get high just being there" not my words.. and the police can not do anything about it
Friendly people
GOSH they are so friendly and patient! If you're honked at, you know you did something wrong LOL
Asians
THERE ARE SO MANY ASIANS! Its crazy!
Height & Size
Who would have thought Canadians would be so tall and slim? Canadians = tall & fit
 Americans = short & fat
Their High-Tech Money!
Its so cool!
Basically, the Canadian government has got rid of their old $50 & $100 bills and made new ones that are made of polymers (plastic) so that it is harder to counterfeit and it will last longer in circulation.
(Also, they are getting rid of their penny because it costs more to produce than its actual value. Plus, life would be so much easier if things weren't $2.99 -_- or $1.59 per lb. And they are coming out with a new quarter soon, and it glows in the dark!) I wish the USA would get rid of our silly penny.

Homecoming & Updates

1. Me and Michelle were "twins" for Twin Day.
2. We went to Homecoming and were at the Homecoming game, it was cold so I wore my awesome Canada gloves that I got in Vancouver after the 2010 Olympics!
3. We are AP Scholars!
4. Shoutout to my friend Jen who has an ice skating blog. & Shoutout to my friend Simran who asked me the other day "why I didn't blog anymore". Haha
Also, I spent a great deal of time in Manhattan this weekend. I went to a Baruch Open House, which was very cool. And if you've never been in the Hollister on Broadway/W Houston, you have to go. It's so cool in there, as if I were in Cali. I walked into Brandy Melville and I did not like it. It smelt like a wet umbrella if you forgot to leave it out to dry, and it was really crowded and not as big as I expected.
Also, I know I'm a sporadic (nice adjective!) blogger and I don't have a good excuse. My apologies! But, if you were wondering why... I've been busy with school. Tennis season just ended so hopefully I will get home earlier than 7pm and blog more frequently. :)

Getting robbed in Canada, What I Learned & Advice

Some background info:
16 yr old New Yorker, attending family business in Vancouver over the Memorial Day weekend. (To sum it up, we got robbed, they stole our passports, and due to holiday/communication problems we were stranded in Canada for 3 days) and as I write this, I'm regretting it cuz I feel frustrated all over again.

What happened:
Around 4pm, my family and I parked our car in the underground parking lot (14D yellow area) of Metrotown mall in Burnaby. We came back at 6pm, opened our trunk and our most valuable possessions were gone. 3 cameras, pictures we will never get back, 1 iPod, 1 netbook, passports, A LOT of USD, credit cards and a lot of legal papers. Total monetary value adds up to $5,000. Not only did we lose so much money, but more importantly, our identity was stolen. DOB, address, email, passwords, bank accounts, social security number which is on your passport, credit cards which is linked to a business, driver license. You name it. You could use that to create more credit cards, take loans, sell information, create fake identities, etc.

What we did right after:
1) Obviously we were in shock.
2) Immediately went to the mall service center, called security, reported the robbery. They tried to look at security camera footage but we were parked in an area with none. (Part of the fact was because we like to park in areas where no cars are around so it doesn't get damaged. and the mall is HUGE it's one of those supermalls)
3) Called the police. They told us to go to the police station on Deer Park Drive
4) Arrived, reported the robbery. BUT they could not file the report without passports since we are out of the country. and we didnt have them because they were stolen! so they told us to go to the US Consulate in Downtown Vancouver
5) Next morning, went to US Consulate. Its Memorial Day (Monday) so it wasnt open.
6) Called multiple times to their emergency number. They said come in the next morning
7) The next morning (Tuesday), we waited about 1 hour, went through security, checked in our phones (the only valuables we had left, and also you weren't allowed to bring them up there) and when we got up there (it was a tall building) they gave us papers to fill out to make a temporary passport
8) After waiting and waiting, we finally got them. BUT they wouldn't give us our old passport numbers, and so the Vancouver police wouldn't file a report -_-
